Apple juice is very good in aiding the function of the digestive system and for helping the function of the kidneys. It is in the digestive system that its cleansing properties makes apple juice very popular. However, apple juice is also able to purify the blood and is very helpful as a general tonic for the skin and liver. Apples contain around 16 calories per ounce and contain a large number of vitamins including riboflavin, thiamine, carotene, vitamin B6, biotin and folic acid. At one time it was believed that apples contained a lot of vitamin C, however, it has since been discovered that this is not the case. The levels of vitamin C can vary quite considerably between different varieties which can contain anywhere between 2 mg per hundred ounces to 35 mg. Varieties that contain a lot of vitamin C include Bramley's, Golden Noble, and Ontario. Fruits such as oranges and lemons are the most vitamin C rich fruits, however, apples contain more minerals and anti-oxidants such as tannic acid.
