Wheatgrass: How it became popular
by Steve Meyerowitz Grass is the world’s most ubiquitous vegetation. There are over 9,000 species of grasses. From the outback down under to the one inch arctic tundra, wherever there is sun, water and soil, there is grass. As a seed, all grasses start from grains like wheat, barley, oat, rye, and rice. Four of the world’s top five crops are grains/grasses. For centuries, farmers have noticed how livestock improved when they fed on the young grasses of early spring. Scientists started studying grasses in the 1930’s in an effort to discover its nutritional mysteries and include it in animal feed. They found that animals could survive on grass alone but, in contrast, failed on other healthy vegetables like spinach and carrots. The agricultural chemist Dr. Charles F. Schnabel started a movement that made grasses available for both livestock and human consumption. In the early 1940’s, you could buy ‘tins’ of Schnabel’s dry grass powder in pharmacies all across North America. Stories about the new health food with "more vitamins than the alphabet has letters," ran in Newsweek, Business Week, and Time magazines. Later in the 1970’s, Dr. Ann Wigmore popularized the use of indoor-grown, fresh squeezed grass juice for the therapeutic treatment of cancer patients who had been pronounced ‘incurable’ after conventional medical treatment. Wigmore had saved her own gangrene legs from amputation with her grass treatments and eventually ran in the Boston marathon. Word about her "Hippocrates Health Institute," and the "miracles" resulting from her wheatgrass treatments spread. Today, wheatgrass juice is available as dry powder and fresh squeezed juice in juice bars and health food stores everywhere. |

Affrimation...........
After growing wheatgrass for the general public for the past eight years....YES for sure....Miricles do occur Many times dependinmg on the extent of the damage created by the cronic desease ...or the "modern" doctors...who "practice" their toxin medications daily....for the big money. NOTE: There are many really great professional surgeons and docotrs who want to HEAL and CURE....not just give out the remedies...and make themselves and the drug companies RICH! But if the person is on the "trap door of death" Most likely they are sent home to die...when they CANNOT be radiated or CHEMOED any more...Throw in Lazor Gamma Knife also. This is when Medicaid shuts down the money...and the patient is not welcome in the doctors office any more. Next the person hears about or reads that many times FRESH wheatgraaa juice amy CURE and /or HEAL the cronic problem.....So they give up ALL dairy products....eat NO MEAT...or VERY little. And do the drill. 8 ounces in the morning ...and and 8 ounces in the evening...Yikes. REMEMBER ...I am a farmer...THe prceding information has beeen told TO ME by successful individuals who have changed and WON their lives back. Steve Meyerowitz and I have met on serveral occasions....He REALLY is concerned about speading the word about regaining health...and FEELING energy, cleansing, rejuvination and Stamina. His book jacket is on bothe sides of our worktruck. "wheatgrass natures finest medicine". Up to date information on Wheatgrass....not written 45 years ago!

I never met him, but Charles F. Schnabel was my grandfather. My dad, Edward Schnabel, told me many stories of travels with his father to research wheat.

Wheatgrass History - Charles F. Schnabel
I always thought the story of Charles Schnabel was an interesting one. You can read more about his story and Ann Wigmore at Wheatgrass Place.
Wow Debbie, that's really cool that he was your grandfather. I would be interested in hearing more from you about what your father told you! Sincerely, Jared Balis Owner, Wheatgrass Place WheatgrassPlace.com |

Interesting stuff, I never knew that. I feel like wheatgrass really became mainstream when Jamba Juice started selling it
