Thumbs up Measuring Cups

Measuring cups may be made of plastic, glass, or metal. Maximum capacity usually ranges from 0.2 to 1 litre, though larger sizes are also available (for commercial use). Smaller measuring spoons lack a scale and are filled and leveled to maximum capacity. Its mostly used to measure things such as flour, water, or any type of liquid.

Measuring cups are normally used for measuring all the liquid items that one may use for cooking or while cooking. Lately, students are also using these cups for measuring chemicals in laboratories. People first came to know about this cup in 1879. As at that time, people normally had no idea about even the approximate measurement methods and this cup became compulsory for the simplest task of cooking. Most ancient method to measure anything was the use of body parts including hands and legs. However, this cup may or may not be simple.

I know you are supposed to be drinking 8 CUPS of water a day, but does that mean measuring cups? Because I'm sure you are supposed to drink more than that...I'm kind of confused on that, because I just drank a glass of water, but I have no idea if that surmounts to a "cup" of water.

I know dry measuring cups can be used to scoop, while liquid measuring cups can easily pour. Aside from that, are the "measurments" the same? Can I use a liquid measuring cup to measure dry foods? I would see for myself but I don't have any dry measuring cups.
