The Ingredients of a Tea Leaf
Tea leaves contain the following nutrients and substances: catechin, caffeine, the amino acid theanine, butyric acid, Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C, E, F, P, & U, chlorophyll, minerals, pectin, saccharides, and saponin. The nature of these ingredients change based on how tea is processed.
More limited processing, such as steaming in the case of white and green tea, retains more of these nutrients and is the basis for the health claims made related to these teas. Roasting and fermenting black teas, and even some types of green teas, can damage the bioactive substances in the tea leaf. |

Green tea has 0 calories, 0 salt, 0 fat, 0 sugar, like any other tea. The only thing you will actually consume is a small amount of caffeine (about 20mg/cup) and some antioxidants, other minerals, etc.
The only 'green tea' that has stuff in it is the kind you buy premade, like Arizona iced tea, which has added sugar and flavors. I would blame the facts on an error of translation. It is quite obvious that a cup of tea doesn't have the same amount of fat as a cheeseburger! green smoothie |
