Have just found out about w/g and think its amazing - just grown my first batch under 200w warm spectrum eco lite and will continue the set up into the summer....................outside. growth seems ok and use liquid seaweed to soak the grain then more with each watering (v small amount used).
I have been experimenting with B+Q organic grow bag compost and mixing that with coco coir , or just the coir only, while mixing the seed into the soil or sometimes spreading over the surface but not yet found the average seed quantity to container size ratio thing etc Anyone wanna give me some tips and advise!!! cheers |

It sounds like your doing fine right now with your setup...You've found the secrete ingredient SEA WEED EXTRACT
As for seed quanitity I usually do 1 cup to 1 &1/2 cups seed per growing tray. |

To prevent mold you could try to lower your temperatures to around 70 degrees and increase air circulation. Also You can try spraying your wheatgrass trays with Hydrogen peroxide which is non toxic and disolves into water.

The only way to control mold is through strict moisture control.Your dirt base should be moist notWET!Your seed should soak for 12hrs.,Rinse several times before soaking and after soaking. The water should run clear. In doing this you have removed the mold spores along with the phytates and other nasty stuff.Drain the seed well, the seed is now soft and easily damaged.Spread out carefully for DRYING for 12hrs.Preferably in dark area, then put on bed not under the dirt .I tried this and it was not of any benafit.Spred seed spray lightly if needed.Cover with newspaper, spray till moist not WET!Next day check newspaper should be DRY!Remove newspaper let flat have air serculation for atleast 1hour.This was my big mistake at first, didnt let it breath long enough.I did manage to grow some awsome mold by watering to much.Spray seed lightly, cover seed spray newspaper moist not WET!Do not water again, repeat as needed. The key is to let it get DRY before rewatering. If its not DRY dont water. To see a master growers point of view visit wheatgrasman.com.Lots of good info, and his genisis seed is simply awsome.High gemanation ratio and it grows tall and very uniform in growth.I personaly dont use citriside,IfI have a mold issue I sray it with bakingsoda water.Baking soda is alkaline and mold needs an acidic enviorment to grow.Best to harvest shortly after spraying, wheatgrass doesnot like an alkaline enviorment.Good luck and happy growing!

Mold...liquid seawed?????
I have found that anything handled by man is not the same as the pure...and prefer Food grade sea kelp MEAL.(Canadian) Mold that is topical is not pathenigenic(harmfull). Using pure water(no clorine).....plenty of ventalation or air-conditioning(best).l...and NOT oversoaking your seeds(berries) will help to curb the molding....When dealing with high heat and/or humidity....it still may be difficult. Using other products may change the flavor intonation of the juice...and lets face it it is not chocolate vannila or starwberry in the first place.

I have posted some pictures of our nursery(we grow one thing>>>FRESH wheatgrass) in the picture galery...seeing is beleaving. This year we had better sucess with the high heat and humidity here in Florida. Because we spaced our trays about 8 inches apart(I think it allowed better air circulation ands kept the roots cooler. Our ventalation CONSISTS OF five - TWO HORSE POWER turbo FANS..COST $10.OOO.OO>>Breezemaker Fans, Tampa Florida
Still in the hot summer weather anywherer...try not to overwater...adding more is easy....preventing the ROOTS from rotting is not. Soak LESS time in the warmer weather....12 hour soaking can make the berries mushy and invite mold problems....and IF your are using a TRUE sprouting seed therer will never be a neeed to cover the seeds....just keep the moist for the first TWO days....then check your trays for wettness...if you are growing in a full 2 inches of grow mix(I prefer soiless with no wetting agent(chemical) and NO commercial start up fertalizer...Fafard from Canada does our custom mix.) You may have to give your crop a little bit more water and just let it do it's thing. After the first two days is when most first time growers mess up and drench the bottom of the trays. We are small and I only grow 200 pounds of seeds a week right now. Been selling out most weeks for the past two years....and am putting the SSL Certificate BACK on Drelichwheatgrass.com by December 1st. Adding a few more tables and will be able to take on a few more customers. MAYBE 50 people in the entire country grow commercially. It is labor intensive.(We do not sit at a computor all day)..PLUS Mother Nature is really in charge of what you do.... Lost Two of my three greenhouses to hurricaine Charley......We regrouped and now we are starting our 9th year! There are so many different methods and systems that may be used to grow GOOD fresh wheatgrass. The amount of sunlight you have ...or don't have(Canada). They have aot of sunlight but do to the curve of the earth it is not very strong all year. Grow lights...Forget it! The "CHI" or so called energy of the fresh wheatgrass just is not there. MOTHER NATURE>>>BABY!>>>That is where it's at. EAT well....and Stay GREEN and BE Healthy! We grow fresh wheatgrass because we WANT to...NOT because we HAVE to! Still haven't read if you can use the grass if you have a mold problem. I am new to growing/using wheatgrass. I always have white puffy cloudlike mold near the bottom of my grass. Try spraying with citricide mixture, doesn't work. But the question is....can I drink the juice from the grass if I have seen mold?? I have been juicing for about a week, I rinse the grass off very good before I juice. Am I doing my body more harm than good by using this grass?

Go to ......................
Mold wheatgrass on your computor...hit enter ands see if the posting of a reort I had done on some molding in my trays was harmful...
It was preformed a MMI in Georgia...by Dr, Woodword ...he owns a pathalogy Lab. I did it because a Canadian grower is STILL making claims that the detox symtoms are CAUSED by mold....And they NOW after get this 7 years of indoor growing....grow in the fields OUTSIDE!! (lazy people) now CLAIMING That THEIR FROZEN wheatgrass juice is BETTER Than FRESH.........OY! FROZEN>>>FREEZE DRIED>>>>POWDERED>>>>OR DEHYDRATED wheatgrass IS DEAD FOOD>>>>NOT AT ALL LIVE!!!>>>>amen |

mold on grass
just read her insightfull report on mold. one wonders whether they used chemicals in their growing. maybe she is trying to blame the mold rather than have their production process thrown into the fray.
she seems to be trying score extra points by throwing in that her father was a minister. what does that have to do with mold. i take my grass daily, approx 4 oz twice daily if i have enough in my two trays aweek. mold is a problem for the growers over here in ireland. I don't have any problem sinking my green elixir. i feel great like a spiritual high comes over me ten minutes arfter i've gulped it down. one can only surmise that their process wasn't done right, they probably were in it for the money firstly and the quality of thier grass suffered. people were probably getting a reaction from some chemical fertilizer or god knows. i first used w.g in california, which was mold free always. i had to go through the purgeing stage until my body got used to it. iwasn't aware of mold till i came back to ireland. but i think its harmless from this 8 oz a day users point of view.i would think that she's trying to put down a good product to boost her sales potential. if she was still feeling a detox effect after drinking wheatgrass for years sounds ridiculous from my experience of wheatgrass plus the headaches within seconds sounds like bad gear., and doesn't say much for their business. and for a lady to break out in hives within seconds of consuming a shot sounds like scare mongering or an unclean set up. is ontario a cold area or hot. i was nearly put off taking wheatgrass at first with the purging, but i read into it more and perservered until my body adjusted to the the concentrated dose of living food it was receiving. what i'd like to see is the extensive test reports that back up her claims and most importantlyl proof that mold causes the detox symptoms. if she can proove that, then theres something wrong with me or else irish mold is different in some way. did you look up her entry in steve m's book. i read his book years ago and find it hard to believe that he would endorse frozen over fresh. they have a three week window to harvest their crop and a whole year to sell it. sounds likes an easier way of doing business than week in week out. i had heard that outdoor grown is a superior product, but is not practicalif you want to supply a fresh product on a weekly basis. the seeds can root deeper and take more from the soil, but the difference is negligable if you take the taste factor out of it. still a tough one to argue over whether to freeze is damaging to the grass or to what extent. tough one to proove or disproove. fresh is best to my way of thinking. if you charged 50 bucks for a flat and called it royal wheatgrass you would find that some people would buy it on the premise that itf it is expensive it must be good. people will get used to taking grass depending on many things. how toxic your system is, stomach ailments seemed to increase when i began to take w.g . the purgeing of the liver and colontakes a while.mind over matter is a big factor. if you tell yourself that it is disgusting it will always be a bitter pill to swallow.it would be interesting to hear from others on how well they responded and how long it took to get past the initial effects, nausea, stomach ache, kidneypains or the like. colonic irrigation is not for everyone, but if you bring yourself past the taboo of it, it is a great way of eliminating waste from the body that may never come out by itself. anyone i know that has had one, have a spring in their step immediately and feel lighter and more alert. weight loss is guranteed although it can be 1 lb or 7 lb. one will notice flattening of the stomachas the intestine is cleared. it may take three sessions to work through all your intestine but your body is finally dumping out waste chemicals that eventually get re absorbed into your blood stream and sent back to the liver to be sent back to your colon for elimination. think of your intestines like a pipe whick builds up a layer on the wall which gets thicker as time goes by. add our poor eating habits, processed foods, lack of roughage and years of taking all sorts of pills and additives. removing the backed up waste is good for the body. the liver will get a break from the constant overloading of your body reabsorbing chemicals agian and again while trying to process all the current toxins and medicines. colon cancer is growing year by year, take out the dead waste and give yourself a better chance of avoiding it. i have switched over thirty people onto grass in ireland. one is a boxer who swears that his fitness is always easier to maintain with plenty in the tank at the end of a fight. people who were always lethargic living more normal lives. the younger you are the faster you feel the benefits. i tell people to stick with for at least a month, by that time they will feel more balanced, and most will comment that others are noticing that their skin and hair look good and fresh. most of them are still taking it daily, they all agree that it is great addition to their lives with no side effects, or any problems getting it to stay down once they got used to the sugary taste. i'd love to grow it and feed the world but the weather is crap over here, and i reckon that to set up properly and keep everything just right for growing would cost too much. when i drink my juice i know that it is organic and fresh. i wouldn't fancy a frozen shot that may have been in a freezer for three years or grown in a field with airoplanes and cars poisoning the air or leeching in the soil. alas. we live in a lazy world where the pill is preferred. one last thing. i have often read lab reports on wheatgrass versus other veggies for nutrition. of course the wheatgrass always lost. it never will win. they never test fresh wheatgrass in these trials. always the powder version. to acknowledge wheatgrass as a benefit to your health is bad for business. big pharma produce chemicals to poison the land, they kill the nutrient in the crop sell it to the people who fall ill from toxic overload and nutrient starvation, and sell us drugs to makes us better. they will say that all the additives are harmless in minute quantities, but that doesn't mean a hell of a lot when you have a daily intake which builds up sometimes as the body struggles to deal with it and then your body has to fight with these chemicals binding to other chemicals and you now have newly formed toxins which can run amok. i'm no doctor, and write in lay mans language. i'm sure jj43 will correct my basic attempt to explain things with proper descriptions and learned terminology. this is for the other people who don't have a phd in science. i find it alarming that you can go to a store and buy nice shiny organic foods that will remain fresh looking if left in the fridge for a period of months. organic my arse. i buy organic from a food co-op, and the fruit will looklike it should, rough with blemishes and un waxed. it will start to go off very quickly as it's not treated with preservatives and of course they taste great. the cost is abit higher, but the more that buy the cheaper it will become.people have to help sustain small true growers or we will one day have no control over what we eat when a problem is talked about, pharma never tries to look at the cause, they always talk of creating new more resistant products. this new crisis of the disappearing honey bee is a direct result of of poisoning form pesticides and cars etc. scientists won't acknowledge this but instead talk of playing god again by creating a new hybrid of the african killer bee with the european honey bee. if you haven't heard of the bee thing, look it up. with no bees there are no crops. in a province of china they must hand pollinate all the flowering crops. it is believed that over 40% of bees were lost last year in the U.S. and it is a world wide event. don't waste your time frank, some people will never see the light. anyone that drinks fresh grass over a period of time knows that fresh is best. well done on your seven years. you are doing your bit to help people live healthier lives, not many people can put that on their resume. if i ever make it over to florida i'll be sure to look you up and get to taste your prided grass. to anyone new to wheatgrass, don't expect it to cure you of anything or expect too much. instead consider it a step on the road to better health, a friend to your body. it will help yor body to help itself. it is only part of the solution. if you have asmhatic children, stop spraying aerosols or plug in air fresheners, and take them and yourself off for an allergy test. you'd be surprised at what you are intolerant to, and the effect it has on your body and mind. if your body becomes overloaded and oversensitive to a chemical you will generally develop some symptom of this. that is the body's way of saying something out of order. a doctor will treat the symptoms not the cause. i used to have nightmares where i'd choke in my sleep. it got bad and i was hospitalised and put on severe drugs which wiped me out. thankfully my family saw where this was leading and got me out of there. i went for an allergy test it turned out that i was allergic to dairy, white bread and guinness.so i just cut them all out as best i could and the problem was sorted out within a few months as my body cleared out all traces of the offending agitants. i can eat them again, the odd time as long as i don't go crazy and exceed my body's limit to them.everybody is hypersensitive to something that we eat or drink or wear, or bath in. how your body deals with it is varied. you may have migraines or cannot sleep, or feel run down. it could be anything, so get yourself checked out. |

I think the only way to control The alone way to ascendancy cast is through austere damp control.Your clay abject should be clammy notWET!Your berry should absorb for 12hrs.,Rinse several times afore assimilation and afterwards soaking. The baptize should run clear. In accomplishing this you accept removed the cast spores forth with the phytates and added awful stuff.Drain the berry well, the berry is now bendable and calmly damaged.Spread out anxiously for DRYING for 12hrs.Preferably in aphotic area, then put on bed not beneath the clay
