Newbie starting out, part 2
There is so much confusing information on the web and in books on growing wheatgrass.
In terms of soil, I've seen everything from "just use regular soil" to "just use peat moss", and everything in between. One site even recommended just letting the wheat berries set their roots in paper towels! I've seen suggestions for 0 inches, 1 inch, and 2 inches of soil. I've seen suggestions for not covering seeds at all, to covering them with wet newspaper, to covering them with soil. I've seen suggestions for planting berries immediately after a 12 hour soak, to planting in 24 hours, 36 hours, after 2 days, even after 3 days of sprouting in a sprouter. One site says it is fine to pile berries a few layers thick. Other sites say this is really bad. The site saying to do it claims to be a commercial operation that has grown wheat grass for 10 years without any ill effects of piling berries on top of each other. In terms of light, most sites say natural light is absolutely mandatory, others say grow lights are fine if natural light is not feasible. I am in a situation where it is impossible to set the plants out during the day for much of the year -- Calgary, Canada, where the daytime temperatures are often below zero (F) (-15 degrees C) in the winter. We don't have enough window space to put trays in the windows. Besides, our house was built in the early fifites, and it actually does not have windowsills (to speak of -- very very narrow)! The only place I can grow the sprouts is on a big multi-layer rack in the basement, and this requires growlights. So I really have no choice -- growlights or no wheatgrass. Even if I could put the trays outside without them freezing, the sun is so low on the horizon in the winter, and it is so often cloudy, that this wouldn't do much good. Wigmore says you can cut grass twice or even three times. I've never read that anywhere else. Your advice is appreciated! |

You can buy.....
You can but OATS before they go into the horse-------And you may purchase Oats AFTER they come out of the horse/////The difference is the price and what you have in your hand! Second cutting ...let alone third cutting is rediculous...Remeber Annie had many people walking around her yard PAYING her to be there. First cut young Virbrant FRESH wheatgrass is the only way to do it....for the full healing rejuvination, cleansing and ENERGY!.....The is a man Names Mr. Fox who grows commerciallly in your area.....called me here in Orlando Florida about 3 years ago.....we spoke for about 2 hours about different ways of producing wheatgrass.....he told me he was a BACKYARD grower....later I found out that was not true.. Our four "secret "growing ingridients are on EVERY label///with the cut date.... Plus two of the ingridients come from CANADA! The food grade sea kelp MEAL---not liquid...and the Fafard custom grow mix is tremendous during our production. (no wetting agent, a chemical + no start up fertalizer. This is our 9th year....I grow at least 300 pounds of wheatgrass berries a week. Only 50 people here in the USA grow fresh wheatgrass for the general public....I wish there were 5,000! And yes you rays from the sun make it very difficult to produce what you want.
