Hi, I am growing my first tray of wheatgrass. I am growing it on Baby Blanket which I got from SproutPeople.com. On their site they say they like growing it in vermiculite better. I haven't a clue how to do this. Can anyone advise me?

First question is .....

Why won't the people you bought the growing product give you THEIR advice?

We have sold a grow try kit for 9 years and always provide the customer with a complete instruction sheet...a email adress and a personal cell phone number to call for growing HELP!

Call THEM and ask for thier advice or opinion......It should be included in what you paid for.

Growing GREAT "Home Grown" Fresh wheatgrass is NO secret.

"Baby Blanket???"

Vermiculite attrachs water....the enemy of the roots of wheatgrass in the summer when heat and humidity do not help either.

Perlite added to either soil or soiless grow mixtures adds AIRATION to the roots and helps prevent rotting from an overdose of water.

Eat Well and STAY GREEN....gone fishing....

By the way....alot of people read what I post......

But FEW respond and give input or opinion.

Well, ya know I was kind of also hoping for opinions on whether vermiculite is a good medium.

Baby blanket seems to be a thin sheet of matted jute which absorbs a great deal of water and it seems to be doing fine for the grass, however, I am also trying to grow greens in it and the plants are seeming as if they don't have a lot of support.

Sprout people doesn't seem to have a photo of it but you can kinda see it here: www .growgreens.com/catalog/item/1473809/2805451.htm#image_1

As far as vermiculite..or perlite for that matter, can the grass be grown strictly in that respective medium, or is it better mixed with soil or potting mix?

Thanks

In my previous post,

I recommended using PERLITE (a puffed volcanic ash) to airate either SOIL or SOILESS grow mixtures.

There are various textures of Vermiculite. From fine to course.

My good friend STARTS ALL his seedilings in vermiculite....but he grows Flowers and herbs....NOT fresh wheatgrass.

You can sprout and grow wheatgrass IN YOUR HAND....it will still be FRESH wheatgrass when it reaches the proprer height for cuting and juiceing.

But remember you may buy OATS before they go into the horse.....or after....What you get in your hand are two different things.

It is not only quick and easy...to save time and effort....and sometimes money$$$$! I use a $30,000.oo John Deer tractor to turn and compost my used grow mats.

The way I grow my "commercial wheatgrass(9years) to help people that do not have the time or location to do it themselves....is VERY labor intensive presently.

And if I changed the Food Grade Sea Kelp Meal for say Liquid Kelp....and replaced my Chemical free Candian Peat with Perlite custom Grow mix from Farfard of Canada.(no wetting agent and no start up fertalizer....I could make TWICE the profit on EVERY pound of fresh wheatgrass we sell.>>>>>Not worth it!

Gone fishing....this time Sabastian Inlet!

No WAY!!
