Nutrition and Vegetarianism

Most nutritionists claim that a diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables but low in animal fat and red meat offers numerous health benefits, including a significantly lower risk of heart disease, cancer, renal failure and stroke. The American Dietetic Association, the largest organization of nutrition professionals , states on its website "Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits, including lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein as well as higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and phytochemicals.

Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer." The American Heart Association's website states "Many studies have shown that vegetarians seem to have a lower risk of obesity, coronary heart disease (which causes heart attack), high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus and some forms of cancer." Studies show that a vegetarian mother's breast milk has significantly lower levels of pesticide residue than a non-vegetarian's.

Some vegetable protein sources lack in one or more "essential" amino acid. For example, Grains and nuts are low in lysine and legumes are low in methionine. While everyone should eat a variety of foods to ensure a balanced nutrition, the body’s requirement for essential amino acids now appears to be much less important than researchers once believed.

Vegetarians get all the protein and amino acids they need from eating a normal variety of whole grains (whole wheat bread, oatmeal, brown rice), beans, nuts, and soy (tofu, veggie burgers/hotdogs, edamame, etc). The intake of such foods has to be larger since the protein percentage in these foods are comparatively lower than in a similar serving of meat. Attaining sufficient protein intake is rarely a problem in developed countries and the lower protein intake of vegetarians has even been suggested as a possible cause of some of the health benefits above. A vegetarian diet does not include fish - a major source of Omega 3, though some plant-based sources of it exist such as soy, hempseed, pumpkin seeds, canola oil and, especially, walnuts and flaxseed.

Some suggest that vegetarians have higher rates of deficiencies in those nutrients which are found in high concentrations in meat. Surprisingly, studies endorsed by the ADA found that this was not the case for iron or calcium. On the other hand, Vitamin B-12 and zinc from vegetarian sources other than dairy products and eggs are not readily absorbed by the body and a vegan diet usually needs supplements. Nonetheless, these nutrients are now commonly supplemented in milks and cereals in the western world, and is not necessarily a problem in a vegetarian diet.

I have met......

I have met many people who do the no meat and not dairy drill. Yet they will eat a rare Rib Eye Steak twice a month....If your fathers father ate meat your genetics will respond to a craving for amino acids from the blood of a animal....not to satisfy a NATURAL craving.....well goofy is goofy. BUT one who has a cronic decease SHOULD NOT part take at all....and stay 1000% free of ALL dairy and meat for the time needed to responfd to a homeopathic, holistic or alternative method of CURING the PROBLEM....And also remember that 70% of all man made drugs do NOTHING ( remedy)....and 100% of ALL drugs just create more problems(side effects).....my opinion...and said and known to many....That have been cured.EATING as much FRESH(live) food every day(fruits and veggies) Is essential. Unforuneately the Fast Food AND drug makers seem to be working together. Keeping the "doctors who "practice" modern medince very busy....and wealthy at the time and expense of the people they send home to die....and the family and friends that sacravice there time trying to make them comfortable. How do I know this....my wife is one of THEM. On the other side Freeze dried powdered or frozen man made RARELY perform the job of HEALING...ALTHOUGH there are excepts to that rule.(statement). Most things that SOUND to good to true to be true are mostly propoganda...so someone can make alot of $$$ in a short periood of time. "Take the monmey and run"....Fresh Wheatgras as an astonding amount of Power and HEALING....so septasium is common. And nothing is 100%...especially when the people have been treated with a remedy til the insurance or medicare or medicaid STOPS...$$$.. Then most of these people are sent home to wonder how long they will be with there loved ones. Having FAITH...a VERY positive attitude....and seeking a CURE....to rejuvinate that can cure the affliction is important. Make Wishes...say prayers...set a goal ...and have at least one FANTACY....it works!

Vegetarian nutrition is the set of health-related challenges and advantages of vegetarian diets.Evidence suggests that vegetarians are generally healthier and live longer than non-vegetarians. They have lower rates of coronary heart disease, obesity, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and dementia. Vegetarian diets tend to be rich in carbohydrates, omega-6 fatty acids, dietary fibre, carotenoids, folic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E, potassium and magnesium. They are generally low in saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein.

That they don't get enough protein. Seriously, who came up with this? Protein deficiency in the Western World is pretty much non-existent unless you have a severe eating disorder or in lack of a home.

Vegetarian diet is the set of health-related challenges and advantages of vegetarian diets. Well-planned vegetarian and vegan diets are nutritionally able and are adapted for all stages of the activity cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence.

Chances of chronic diseases including hypertension, diabetes and coronary heart disease, obesity, kidney failure, osteoporosis, cancer, and decreased significantly between vegetarians by up to forty per cent. Given these benefits, health insurance companies usually offer discounted rates for vegetarians. Vegetarians can get enough protein, but not easy, and this is not true alike.
