Can anyone explain the distinction here?

Hi, I'm a newy to the forums and I've gotten interested in this because I want to grow grass for my family and gorgeous kitties. My arises from research I've been doing in trying to find out if there is anything that I should not be trying to grow and feed to my cats. I came across a list of seed to sprout and it mentions - as part of a list

Quote:

In general, seeds that are OK to grow and give to your cats (but do not use
treated seeds, identifiable by a dyed red, blue or awful green color):

oats (cheap, easy, big)
wheat (not wheatgrass)

End Quote:

Reference: Moore, C (1997) Cat Fanciers - General Cat

Does anyone know the distinction here with 'wheat (not wheatgrass)'? Keeping in mind that this is talking about types of seeds that are okay to grow for cats. Is there wheatgrass seeds as apposed to wheat seeds?

Thanks

Smile Wheatgrass is wheat!

All animals love grass, including cats. The triticum family, wheat ,barly, oats, kamut, rye are all safe to grow for your cats and family.I would not consume any food that has been chemicaly treated!Better living through chemistry is a fradulant claim by the petrochemical industry. If you or your family has hay fever allergies you may want to grow your grass outside.May you and your cats be blessed with vibrant health.Happy growing!

35,000 a day............

At least 35,000 people die of starvation a day in thew orld....yet people get paid still not to plant their crops. CERTIFIED organic hard red SPRING SPROUTING berries seem to be the best for wheatygrass juice. A sprouting berry is just cleaned three times compared to the cereal or grain that is sold more often for growing wheatgrass....that is processed(cleaned) 4 times. Spring wheat also has a higher protien comtent than winter berries.....although they are the same seed just grown different times of the year. Also the spring wheatgrass is harvested at 5-7 inches....where the winter is most often cut at 7-10. Many years agao the spring was$3-4.oo more than the winter.per bag...now they cost about the same.Stay GREEN and BE Healthy!

Besides the trivia post above>>>

A local VET who has beeen in town for 35 years....Sends people to our nursery when their CATS have lukemia. Apparently it helps rid them of the desease.....or at least givres them some relief.

My dogs love to eat the SPROUTED seeds(berries).

Sure they sprout.....

But man should eat the wheat.....and the WORK animals should injest the corn, oats, barley and other grains......The benificial nutriments found in wheatgrass are exceptional....Barley is right up there also.....but because of the bitter taste harder to drink.

Bitter is better...also the hard red winter wheat has a stronger taste. The REASON I grow only Spring wheatgrass.

If you want to sprout other edibles...tray alfalfa...sunflower...mung...dican etc.

Reading your posts....TRY to get a handle on growing your wheatgrass first! The rest will balance your diet. But your energy level will be increased just by growing and JUICEING fresh wheatgrass....Consistancy is the KEY!
