Organic v biodynamic
Just noticed in the health food shop that I go to sometimes to get organica wheat that they now stock biodynamic wheat. What's this mean? The lady was busy so I didn't ask her. They charge more for biodynamic wheat than they do for organic wheat. Also, is it silly to assume that just because it says Organic Wheat on the label, that it hasn't been chemcially treated in any way or do I have to really search down a supplier who stakes his/her life on it being organically grown and not treated with any chemicals at any stage?

The Seeds that are certified organic have been grown on a farm that has not used chemicals for at least 3 years.Chemical free seed is grown on a farm that is on its way to organic certification. These rules are regulated and enforsed by the goverments at hand.I would assume the aussie. goverment does a good job on this issue.Contact the agricultural department for more info on the subject. As far as biodynamic term I am unfamiliar with it.The best seed for growing is high in protein 10-14%.The protein content is relavent to the amount of endosperm. The fuel for establishing the plants root systems while the plant is to young to feed itself. For more info check out wheatgrassman.com.I also recomend Steve Meyerowitz book Wheatgrass Natures Finest Medicine. As a general rule of thumb chemicals are not used on the finished product ie seed.It would make the bread taste foul,or any other wheat product.I hope this helps,Happy growing!!!
