Hydroponics, no fertilizer needed???

If a newly sprouted wheatgrass blade gets its nutrients from the wheatgrass berry and not neccesarily from the soil, are fertilizers really needed for growing wheatgrass hydroponically? If so, then why?

Good question......

Anything that grows like to be fortified. You are correct. Fresh wheatgrass itself is a complete food.

Nessary or not I like to add FOOD grade Sea Kelp Meal to my SOILESS custom grow mix from Fafard of Canada. 10 bags of the kelp meal costs me about $475.oo plus the custom mix is a little over $2,ooo.oo for 200 bags...2.8cu ft.@ Not cheap....but it is the way I grow my wheatgrass for the past 9 years.

There is a point where the blade will start to draw nutrients up through the root system. If there is none available the quality of the finished product will suffer.Hydroponics in none for the lowest quality of produce. It is however the easiest way from a labor stand point.

We sell Certified Organic sprouting berries(seeds) plus>

Entire grow tray kits....with instructions and phone contact for advice.

We advocate backyard growers!

We donnot advacate freeze dried powdered products....or using grow lights. Or frozen products that make out rageous claims.

Ease is Easy....Making fresh wheatgrass juice requires a machine designed for such a purpose....fresh wheatgrass...and cleaning the machine.

Taking a pill or capsule is easy.

If you grow it in your yard ...or in a green house it is VERY labor intensive.

Most people who are against FRESH wheatgrass are generally affiliated with a drugstore chain.

Look at my nursery in the picture gallery.

These days MOST people do not have the time to grow fresh wheatgrass.

Only about (maybe) 50 people in the entire country grow commercially.

Our 4 "secret" ingridients that we use to grow with are on EVERY label of wheatgrass that we sell>>>>WITH THE CUT DATE!

JJ43 sit down and have another order of french fries...and a diet coke!

The seed may have nutrients for the first few days of the germination process, but not thereafter. Furhtermore those "few days" are as if the seed was growing (slowly) in soil at which stage it would not even have put the shoot above ground! When growing, quickly, hydroponically it will have a voracious appetite for nutrients. Wheat is one of very very few that will take up all 90+ naturally occurring elements if offered. The only resource to provide that is the sea. So you need Ocean Solution as supplied by OceanGrown in the USA or Ocean Grown UK Ltd in the UK or Europe. I've done all this on a large scale and feel convinced its the only option, especially if we are to truly feed our bodies all we really need.

Give the plant all the minerals and it will pass them on in the juice! I assume you also juice the roots as you are doing this hydroponically. You should be!

Hello OLI!!!

The Sea Kelp...Liquid or MEAL is the rudimental way of growing fresh wheatgrass for consumption.
...I only grow about 150-175 pounds of wheatgrass for the public a week....right now.
A hurrincane 2 years ago took two of my greenhouses.

How many pounds a week do you produce?
You may see my pictures on the wheatgrass gallery

. After growing in Florida( it requires that I run Five 2 hp. Turbo fans most of the year!) for 9 years.....I CAN be very outspoken about my methods of growing.....BUT still try to learn something new EVERYDAY!

Good to see you are posting!

We have produced over 140 bottles at 8 ounces each, per week. Curretnly in a 're-think' phase pending re-launch in the New Year.

Starting our 10th year soon!

We here will stay with the FOOD grade Sea KELP MEAL...to amend our grow mix.

SEA WATER in bottles...?

Sounds like sand in the desert to me also JJ43. I agree with you this time.
