Storing Juice
hello all...
i have been growing wheatgrass on my balcony and have very healthy plants. In fact, it's a bit more than I can consume in a day (guess I should start drinking more) I have a very old fashioned hand cranking juicer which is a pain in the neck to put together and then take apart again twice a day. Is it possible to juice, say 250-500ml and keep it in the refrigerator? I'd so much prefer to do that, not just to save on the cleanup/headache of the whole process, but also so that I could just take a shot any time I felt like it. Thanks! |

Most of what I have read(and it makes sense)
Because the flavor and vibrance of fresh juice after it sits at room temperature for say 15 minutes....does change.
Also I have heard that Orange, lemon , grapefruit juices kills the live active enzimes in the juice. So avoiding these good beverages an hour before and an hour after should be considered. I do know a few that make their fresh wheatgrass and put it on ice cubes in a container and sip it all day long. Wheatgrass juice is 100% non toxic....SO thing it is the BEST FOOD you can put into your body.....DRINKING TOO much is like eating too many fresh cherries..watermelon etc.>>>Your body will lrt you know when you have injested your limit. YES the old fashioned METAL juicers require cleaning and a veggie oil applied to inhibit the rust of the metal. That is why the newer machines have polycarbinate juiceing heads >>no lube nessary and many times may be used 2 or 3 times(as long as you store the removable juiceing head in the fridg. Before cleaning again. Eat FRESH and STATY GREEN and be Healthy! When it comes to wheatgrass....FRESH RULES! Frozen, freeze dried or powdered....is for the people who listen to their doctors....and take Man made DRUGS with side effects. |

I'm Derek Stem with DynamicGreens Wheatgrass. We have been flash freezing wheatgrass juice for years and yes, you can definitely do something with your juice that provides you with convenience without compromise. Winter wheat contains naturally occuring ice structuring proteins. These proteins are protective and keep the plant alive when frozen solid under the ice and snow during the winter season. The proteins also serve to protect the juice and keep it in great shape. You can utilize this characteristic of the juice to store it in your own freezer. There are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, the juice changes rapidly due to oxidation. You can prevent this by rapidly packaging it in an airtight container. Several of the juice companies use special ice cube bags like these http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...-10-pack/30314 . Second, the normal method of bringing the juice back to a thawed state is to add some water. Keep the water temperature below 108F (so don't use the kettle) and you will return it to a nice drink in pristine form. Third, if you are not flash freezing the juice, expect some separation. Wheatgrass juice is not a dissolved substance, rather it is suspended particulates. If you would like the juice to be just the way it was when you juiced it...give it a shake part way through freezing. Fourth, stick with winter wheat. Neither spring wheat or barley have the ice structuring proteins so you should not use them for this purpose. For those without the time, we ship beautiful, outdoor grown, flash frozen wheatgrass juice to your door. That said, there is nothing stopping you from utilizing the natural properties of wheatgrass juice to utilize the healthy plants you are enjoying today. Good luck!
